Herbert Odell Hedrick Sr, 91, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2025, at his home in Lexington.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, July 21 at Becks Reformed Church, by the Rev. Roland Slater. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, which was Odell's last major projects.
He was born on January 25, 1934, in Davidson County to Charlie Lee Hedrick and Daisy Leonard Hedrick. Odell's life was one of remarkable achievement and unwavering commitment. He was a co-owner, with his brother Donald Lee Hedrick, of D&O Builders. Together, they spent more than 40 years building fine custom homes and businesses throughout Davidson County, leaving an indelible mark on the local landscape. Beyond his professional endeavors, Odell was deeply involved in his community. He was a lifetime member of Becks Reformed Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and on the cemetery committee. His contributions extended to the church's audio/visual needs for many years, ensuring that services ran smoothly and started on time by sounding the Sunday School bell and ringing the Worship Service bell.
Odell was instrumental in forming the Davidson County Homebuilders Association, where he served as a longtime board member. He found joy in spending time with his family and cherished moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories. After his retirement, he became a fixture at GW Smith Lumber Company, where he made coffee daily and enjoyed spending time with friends, sharing stories and camaraderie. He was a mentor, friend, and confidant to many. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Moore Hedrick; daughter, Tricia Hedrick Jenkins, and his brother, Charles Hedrick.
Odell is survived by his son, Herbert Odell Hedrick Jr., and wife Karen, of Lexington; his son-in-law, John Jenkins; his brothers, Donald Lee Hedrick and wife, Joann, and Jerry Ray Hedrick; his sisters, Marie Hedrick Gobble and Diane Hedrick Burris; his sister in law, Gaynelle Surratt Hedrick; his grandchildren, Jeni Stilwell and husband, Seth, Herbert Odell "Trey" Hedrick III and wife, Callie, and Jordan Chase Hedrick and wife, Brooke; his great grandchildren, Ella Reece Stilwell, Hannah Reid Hedrick, Hadley Ruth Hedrick, and Deacon Jace Hedrick; and host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck’s Reformed Church Backpack Fund, 2845 Beck’s Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
The family would like to thank his special friend and caregiver, Kaye Hughes, for all of her support.
