Odiss Vance Freeman, 76, of East Park Avenue, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at Lexington Health Care, following a one month illness.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Grant Family Cemetery in Nantahala, with the Rev. Michael Freeman and Hunter Smith officiating. There will be no public visitation.
Mr. Freeman was born August 12, 1937, in Swain County, to Everett Vance Freeman and Naomi Tabor Freeman. He served in the U.S. Air Force prior to retiring from U.A. Plumber and Pipe Fitters local 421; he attended Galilee Baptist Church and was a member of Masonic 445 of St. Charles, La.
Surviving are his loving wife, Ramona Byrd Freeman of the home; sons, Warren Freeman and wife Lisa of Denton and Odiss Freeman Jr. and wife Leighann of Lexington; daughter, Lisa Smith and husband Kim of Denton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, David Freeman and wife Mary of Leicester and John Freeman and wife Marleene of Fuquay Varina; sisters, Alma Messer of Washington, Lenna Register of Thomasville and Betty Brooks and husband Charles of Fuquay Farina.
