Mr. Olen Cordell Easter, Sr., 93, of Vance Circle, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 16 at the First United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Kelley Groce and Karen Easter. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mr. Easter was born in Lexington on December 22, 1917 to Early H. and Dora Parks Easter. He graduated from Lexington High School and from UNC, Chapel Hill. Mr. Easter served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 where he attained the rank of Captain. He married Carolyn Critcher in 1942. The couple moved back to Lexington in 1946. He was a Methodist all his life and for many years was a Sunday School teacher and on the Administrative Board. Mr. Easter was a member and Past President of Lexington Kiwanis Club. He was a long time member of the Lexington Junior Order Council and served on the Board of Directors of the American Children’s Home. Mr. Easter was a corporate officer of Link-Taylor and Young-Hinkle Corporations for 37 years and retired in 1990. His wife, Carolyn, passed away on September 11, 2005.
Surviving are Olen Easter, Jr. and wife, Ann, daughter Beverly Easter Bingham and her husband Bill, three grandchildren: Kristen Wooten, Olen (Trey) Easter III, and Gray Bingham, and three great-grandchildren, brother Edwin Easter and his wife Ruth, sister-in-law, Ginnie Easter and many nephews and nieces.
