Opal Smith

Opal Lopp Smith, 89, of Junior Home Road, Lexington, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. A funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 27, 2014 at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Revs. Lewis Johns and Randy Hall. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Mrs. Smith was born January 5, 1925 in Davidson County to John Peter Lopp and Della Mae Stevens Lopp. She was retired from Pickett School, where she was a Librarian and was a member of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie B. Smith, as well as three brothers, William Lopp, John Lopp and F.O “Buck” Lopp; one sister, Imogene Zeilman; and her parents. Surviving are two sons, Ernie Smith and Bill Smith and wife, Stasha, both of Lexington; and one brother, Leonard Lopp and wife, Gaynelle, of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292 or to the donor’s choice.
