Orin Glenn “Buddy” Smith, age 91 of Alston Brook, formerly of Southmont, passed away Sunday, February 24 after being in declining health for three years. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, February 27 at Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he attended while health permitted, with the Rev. Lance Scarlett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington and other times at the home on the son 11320 Hwy 8, Lexington. Orin was born November 10, 1921 in Davidson County to Willie G. Smith and Gertie Daniel Smith. He was a retired supervisor with the Surry County Schools Bus Garage and was a veteran in the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Maxine Reid Smith, and his second wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Hunt Smith, his sister, Willie Mae Garner and his brother in law, Van Garner. Orin is survived by his son, Reggie Smith and wife, Delores, of Lexington; his grandchildren, Scott Smith and wife, Andrea, of Greenville, S.C., Lori Scarlett and husband, the Rev. Lance Scarlett of Rutherfordton, NC; his great grandchildren, Lily & Clay Smith, Christopher Scarlett and wife, Michelle, Samuel Scarlett and Eli Scarlett, and his nephew, Wayne Garner of Lexington. Memorials may be directed to Central Baptist Church, 1347 Hwy 47 East, Lexington, NC 27292 The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Alston Brook for the loving care given to our father during the last three years.
