Pansy Avery Junkins, 85, of S. Hargrave Street, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at her home. A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor JC Miles, the Revs. Wayne Knight and Darcy W. Abbott officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 to 4:30 p.m. prior to the service. Mrs. Junkins was born September 16, 1931, in Fairfax, NC, to Neal Rufus Avery and Ada Gertrude Byrd Avery. She retired from the trust department of Lexington State Bank and later served as the secretary at First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 15 years. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Walter “Gene” Junkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Neal Junior Avery and Sherrill Rufus Avery. Surviving are her loving husband, Gene Junkins, of the home; daughter, Patricia Sue Abbott (Darcy) of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren, Darcy J. Abbott (Betsy), Paul Jason Abbott (Laura), and Benjamin James Abbott (AnaMaria); seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Pauline “Polly” Woodburn, Dorothy “Dot” Johnson, and Wilhelmina “Virgie” Wicker, all of Lexington.
