Parmelee Garrity

  Parmelee Sykes Pridgen Garrity, 89, of Lexington, died Saturday, September 30 at Brookdale of Lexington.    A private service will be held at a later date.      Mrs. Garrity was born February 21, 1928 in New Orleans, LA to Lee Pridgen and Grace Sykes Pridgen.  She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ and was preceded in death by Martin Henry Garrity and her brother, Lee Pridgen.      She was a remarkable woman who served God and others, always had time to listen and stood up for social justice.  She believed “The good life is found in doing for others- small acts count as much as the great ones.”    She is survived by her sons, John Garrity and wife, Linda, of Florida, and Lee Garrity and wife, Catherine, of Winston Salem; her daughters, Kathy Young and husband, David Staley, of Southport, and Pat Coats and husband, John, of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
