Pastor Roger Wilford Lackey Sr., 70, of Forest Hill Road, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center, after declining health.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Wayside Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joe Marler, Daniel Lackey, Stephen Lackey and Ron Staley officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Pastor Lackey was born June 30, 1942, in Henry County, Va., to Pastor Grady Wilford Lackey and Lillian Jennings Lackey. He was pastor for 55 years having served at Wayside Baptist Tabernacle; Welcome Baptist Church, Danville, Va., and Whites Chapel Baptist Church, Ridgeway, Va. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his loving wife, Bonnie Hodges Lackey of the home; son, Roger Wilford Lackey Jr. and wife, Robin, of Lexington, NC; daughters, Susan Ward and husband, Jerry, Cheryl Hewett, all of Lexington, NC, and Joy Huffman and husband, Damon, of Walkertown, NC; mother, Lillian Jennings Lackey of Martinsville, VA; grandchildren, Calum Ward, Colton Ward, Ellen Lackey, Samantha Lackey, Sabastian Hewett, Joshua Hewett, McKenzie Huffman, and Isaac Huffman; brothers, Charles Vincent of Greenville, NC, Donnie Lackey of Wilmington, NC, Pastor Daniel Lackey of Danville, NC, Pastor Stephen Lackey of Floyd, Va., and Kemmy Lackey of Brosville, Va.; and sister, Tina Hamilton of Martinsville, VA.
