Paul Briggs

Paul Ardenes Briggs, 85, of Sunrise Avenue, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a two-month critical illness. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Beck's Lutheran Church by Rev. John Mocko. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Briggs was born May 17, 1922, in Davidson County to Walter Lee Briggs and Lestia Swing Briggs. He was a member of Beck's Lutheran Church, Golden Triad Hunt Club and Yadkin Valley Coon Club. He was a graduate of Linwood School. He was a Davidson County deputy sheriff under Sheriff Wilfred Fritts and retired from Boyd Hedrick's Body Shop. He married Margaret Everhart Briggs, who preceded him in death in March 1998. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Cletus Briggs, James Briggs, Carl Briggs and Everette Swing; and a sister, Lucille Briggs. Surviving are sons, Dr. Gerald Briggs and his wife, Ginger, of Lexington, and Keith Briggs and his wife, Donnella, of Silver Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Martha Briggs Shore and her husband, William, of Lexington; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Archie Briggs and his wife, Annie, of Lexington; and a sister, Goldie McCrary of Lexington. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Beck's Lutheran Church, 441 Becks Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
