Paul Hardy Carter

July 24, 1922 — March 10, 2007

Paul Hardy Carter, 84, of Lexington, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Lexington Health Care after declining health of several years. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Wayne Knight and Joe Beane. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Carter was born on July 24, 1922, in Lenoir County to Lehman Fincy Carter and Sallie Stanley Carter. He retired from United Furniture Co. and was also a carrier for The Dispatch and Charlotte Observer for a number of years. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lehman Carter Jr. and James Carter, and three sisters, Edna Estella Bell, Ruth Holder and Floy Winfred Brown. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Virginia Powell Carter of the home; three sons, Paul C. Carter and his wife, Ruby, Monty C. Carter and his wife, Delaina, and Preston S. Carter and his wife, Mary, all of Lexington; one daughter, Kay Carter Curry and her husband, Roger, of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his Siberian husky, Samson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at his home. Memorials may be directed to the Friendship Circle of Sunshine Sisters, c/o of Myra Cannon, 277 S. Old Greensboro Road, Thomasville, NC 27363 or to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1448 E. U.S. Highway 64, Lexington, NC 27292.
