Paul Edward Conrad

June 15, 1930 — August 19, 2025

Paul Edward Conrad, 95 of Lexington, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025 at Davidson County’s Hinkle Hospice House.

A Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., August 24, 2025 at Holly Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Anna Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Paul was born on June 15, 1930 in Davidson County, NC and was the last surviving child of Adam Efird and Ada Byerly Conrad. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his 12 siblings and their spouses. Brothers: J.B. Conrad (Edna); Simon Conrad (Kathleen); James Conrad; Avery Conrad (Dorothy); Cromer Conrad (Nona); Clyde Conrad (Maxine); Carl Conrad (Etta Lee) and John Conrad. Sisters: Thelma Conrad Younts (Elwood); Edith Conrad Fritts (D.T.); Marcella Conrad Kennedy, and Betty Conrad Roberts (Bill).

Paul was a life long member of Holly Grove Lutheran Church and the Holly Grove Community. At church he was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood and served on various Committees. On Sunday mornings Paul delighted in greeting the children with chewing gum or bubble gum, a tradition he continued even when friends visited in his home. Additionally, Paul and Carolina lovingly and faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post 8 after serving his country in the Army.

Paul graduated from Davis Townsend where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. His love for sports drove him to be a key figure in the development of the Holly Grove Ballpark and the beginning to the Holly Grove Softball Leagues.

As a dedicated gardener, Paul was known in the community for his beautiful garden and the produce he shared. For many years Paul delivered tomatoes to friends, family and neighbors. He and his brothers would compete over who had the first tomato in June and the largest watermelon in August.

Not only a sports participant, Paul was an avid N.C. State Wolfpack fan. He was notorious for his spirited “sympathy” cards sent to Tar Heel fans to keep the rivalry alive. He was present in 1974 at the Greensboro Coliseum when the Wolfpack won the ACC Tournament and then the NCAA Championship game.

Left to cherish Paul’s wonderful memories are his wife of 69 years, Carolina Dorsett Conrad. His daughters: Pam Conrad Jackson and her husband Britt; Jane Conrad Tucker and her husband Edwin, 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Jackson, Eric Jackson, Garrett Tucker and Bridget Tucker. 4 great-grandchildren: Serenity, Carson, Caroline, and Claire. Sister-in-law Minnie Conrad, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to his caregiver Tara Cockman. Thanks also to the staff of Davidson County Hospice for their compassion and care over the last 17 months and to the members of Holly Grove Lutheran church, the Holly Grove community, friends, neighbors and family who have so faithfully and generously supported Paul and Carolina during this time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holly Grove Lutheran Church or to the Davidson County Hospice House.
