Paul William Grant, 90, of Lexington, died Sunday, September 4, 2016, at his home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by Davidson County Honor Guard will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and other times at the home of his daughter on Coble Circle.
Mr. Grant was born August 4, 1926, in Swain County, to William Walter Grant and Bertha Ammons Grant. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later retired from Coble Dairy and Leggett Platt where he had worked as ground maintenance. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Collene Hedrick Grant; and brothers, Royal, Frank, Howard, and Mack Grant.
Surviving are son, Gary Grant and Kathy Barker of Lexington; daughter, Diane Miller and husband Jerry of Lexington; grandchildren, Tammy Goins and husband Scott of Lexington and Holly Greene and husband Chad of Banner Elk; great-grandchildren, Jessica Goins of Lexington and Weston Hargis of Banner Elk; brother, Ray Grant and wife Joyce of Lexington; and sisters, Ruth Hamm and Flo Hamm, both of Lexington.
The family would like to extend special thanks to B.J. Greene for her commitment as his caregiver for the last few years.
