Paul Quentin Koontz, 91, of Oak Hollow Road, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19,2011, at Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 at Davidson Funeral Home prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Koontz was born May 26, 1919, in Davidson County, to John Washington Koontz and Fallie Foster Koontz. He was a member of Reeds Baptist Church; former Reeds Volunteer Fireman; and retired from Dixie Furniture. After his retirement he and his wife, Susan, moved to Southport where they made their home for nineteen and a half years, before moving back to Lexington to be closer to their family. While living in Southport he was a member of the 55 and over club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Paul Koontz; grandson, Thomas Glenn; brothers, Thurman, Terry, and Roy Koontz,; and sisters, Mary Louise Ward, Vettus Myers and Beulah Kepley.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Susan Forrest Koontz of the home; sons, David Koontz and wife, Joretta, and Mackey Koontz and wife, Renee, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Christy Koontz and husband, Mike, Shannon Koontz and wife, Susan, and Michael Koontz; great-grandchildren, Jocelin Knight, Sydney E. Koontz and Sara E. Koontz; and special friend Jerry Gordon and wife, Kathy, of Southport.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregiver and niece, Verna Lee.
