Paul Odell Lanier, age 75 of Bethesda Dr., Welcome died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hochmuth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lanier was born July 21, 1932 in Davidson County to Phillip Henry Lanier and Ollie Damron Lanier. He was a Correctional Officer with the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections, where he was named Officer of the Year. After his retirement, the Paul O. Lanier Firing Range was named in his honor. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed riding, taking care of horses, and enjoyed teaching others, especially children, about horsemanship. Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers: Ray Holt Lanier, John William (J.W.) Lanier, Rev. H. Glen Lanier, Kenneth E. Lanier, Phillip H. Lanier, Jr. and three sisters: Edna Craver, Annie Bell Gooch, and Wilma Freedle.
Surviving are his wife, Bette Bethune Lanier; his sons: Kenneth E. Lanier of Camden, TN and Kevin C. Lanier of Lexington; his daughter, Paula Lanier Bradshaw and husband, David A. of Midway; a grandson, Michael David Bradshaw; a sister, Linda Jarvis and husband, Wayne, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME and other times at the home.
