Ira Paul Walser, 82, of Linwood Southmont Road, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jersey Baptist Church, where he was a member, by Dr. Michael Collier and Rev. Morris Hollifield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Walser was born July 12, 1925, in Rowan County, to Ira Walser and Mary Lindsay Alley Walser. He was a supervisor at North Carolina Finishing Company where he had been employed for 50 years before retirement. He had served his church as past deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the senior choir. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the South Pacific. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Lil Thomas, Claudia James and Helen Coleman.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Sharpe Walser of the home; sons, Charles Walser and wife, Mary, of Greensboro, and Michael Walser and wife, Janet, of Faith; grandchildren, Margaret Walser, Hannah Walser, Karen Humphrey and husband, Kyle, and Katie Little and husband, Chris; great-grandchild, Deacon Humphrey; brothers, Hugh Walser and wife, Jessie Sue, of Taylors, S.C., Joe Walser and wife, Helen, of Salisbury, Wayne Walser and wife, Vickie, of Churchland, Al Walser and wife, Barbara, of Faith; and sisters, Ann Link of Welcome, and Marion Owen and husband, J.H., of Spencer.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home.
