Paulette Weaver Purgason

August 15, 1944 — April 9, 2024

Paulette Weaver Purgason, 79, Charlotte and Southmont, NC died on April 9th
2024. She was born on August 15, 1944 in Tampa, Florida to the late Paul Everett
Weaver and Mary Elizabeth Weaver Day.


Paulette grew up in Jamestown, NC and attended Lucy C Ragsdale High School.
She married William Roger Purgason on March 26th, 1966.
Paulette grew up as an only child and was very much involved with her family and
athletics in her early years.
She studied Marketing and Organization Management first at High Point
University, later earning her Bachelor’s Degree at Queen’s University in 1985.
She moved to Charlotte with her husband and settled down in the South
Charlotte area. Paulette worked for the City of Charlotte from 1967-1981 in the
Mayor & City Manager’s Office. She became the Arts & Education Director at
Charlotte Douglas International Airport from 1981-2003. During her time at
Charlotte Douglas, Paulette cultivated a culture that is still recognized today with
the likes of the Queen Charlotte, Mobile and Rocking Chairs. She earned a
Regional Emmy and an URBIE for her work at the airport.
Following retirement Paulette enjoyed spending time gardening and raising
Scottish Terriers. She also stayed extremely busy with her son and daughter in
law. Many memories were created at Sunset Beach and at High Rock lake.
Paulette enjoyed being involved with Providence Presbyterian Church and
Macedonia Methodist Church in her later years. She served as Head of Session at
PPC as well as sung in the choir.


Paulette is survived by her husband WR, and her son William Roger Purgason, Jr.;
daughter in law Joanna Carper Purgason, grandchildren; William Cade Purgason,
Taylor Maddyx Purgason and Kaylie Elizabeth Purgason.


A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on Saturday May 4th at Providence Presbyterian Church.
