Pauline Johnson Bowman, 89, journeyed to Heaven to be with Jesus, her husband and her two children on September 12, 2018 at her home in Winston Salem.
Mrs Bowman was born on July 24, 1929 in Wilkes County to the late Robert and Ester Mathis Johnson. She attended North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, NC from 1935 to 1946. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Company then worked for McDonald’s on Trade Mart Blvd in Winston Salem until the age of 72.
Pauline was married to Mr. Billy Franklin Bowman for 26 years, who preceded her in death 40 years ago. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Deaf Ministry in Winston Salem, NC where she served as Children’s Sunday School teacher assistant.
She was very well known in the Deaf community and was like a “Mother” and a “Grandmother” to everyone she met. She had a delightful soul who brought joy to all who knew her.
Pauline was always attentive, loving and always very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all blessings to her as she would always say to everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Bowman; her son, James “Jimmy” Bowman; and her daughter, Brenda Anderson, three brothers; Monroe Mathis, Walter Johnson, and Tommy Johnson, and four sisters; Mildred Murphy, Mabel Lowe, Parkie Fulk and Minnie "Sue" Oakley.
Surviving family includes her daughter, Billie Bowling and husband Connie of Winston Salem, son Wayne Bowman and wife Linda of Kernersville and son in law, Ronnie Anderson of Laurinburg, two brothers; Robert Johnson and Ruben Johnson, and one sister Rachel Hager. 10 grandchildren: Brian Anderson, Jennifer Troumbley (Wayne), Nicholas Anderson, Amanda Osborn (Abraham), Shannan Welborn (Michael), Andy Meetze, Jessica Lethco (Travis), Ashley Stevens (Chad), Joshua Bowman and Gabrielle Bowling; 19 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great grandson Zane Trombley, and a special person whom she considered her daughter, Pat Roesel.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home at 858 Hickory Tree Rd. Winston Salem, NC with Mr. Samuel Wood officiating. Burial will be 1:00 pm Wednesday September 19, 2018 at Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery in Winston Salem, NC.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service.
They family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 2:00 to 3:00 Sunday September 16, 2018 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.
