Pauline LaVerne Goodman Eller Young, 95, of Lexington entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 4, 2024. She was born September 22, 1929, in Rowan County. Pauline was raised by her loving parents, Walter C. Goodman and Wilma Canup Goodman. Pauline attended schools in Rowan County and graduated with a GED from Rowan Cabarrus Community College.
Pauline loved all the special things in her life, and her family was her greatest joy. Each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was richly blessed to have received her love, compassion, and wisdom that she freely gave. Pauline had many friendships over the years through her local church family, church senior groups, and friends from the Davidson County Senior Services. She especially enjoyed traveling with senior church groups to Fort Caswell and trips to the Amish country. She loved baking, especially homemade desserts that included lemon pound cakes and chocolate chip cookies. She loved watching cooking shows and her favorite food was bread, especially homemade biscuits. She loved caring for flowers, hand-stitching patchwork quilts, and playing hymns on the piano, with a God-given talent to play by ear. Everyone who knew her well will remember her love for yellow flowers, especially buttercups and yellow roses.
Pauline always blessed others with her wonderful smile and sweet spirit which was absolutely contagious. She was asked the reason she smiled so much. Her response was that she had God’s love in her heart, His joy, and His forgiveness. She started and ended each day by reading her Bible and loved listening to and singing gospel music.
She was preceded in death by first husband, Billy Ervin Eller; second husband, Leo Jackson Young; daughter, Ruth Eller Wrenn; grandson, Brian Spry; sister, Juanita Goodman Cranfield; brother, Walter D. Goodman; sister, Georgia Goodman Hoskins; son-in-law, Curtis Fletcher; and two step-daughters, Loretta Young Phillips and Judy Young Ludwig.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Billy Eugene Eller, Carolyn Eller Fletcher, Nancy Eller Spry (Mike), and Sherry Young Sink (Corky); grand-daughters, Jennifer Fletcher Brown (Tim), Angela Spry Childress (Brian), Tonya Wrenn Walthall (Greg), Shanelle Wrenn Wilkey (Chad); two great-grandchildren, Allie Wilkey and Zackary Wilkey; niece, Judy Hoskins Spencer (Lee), nephew, Charles Goodman, stepchildren, Jimmy Young (Becky), Sue Young Buie, and Jill Young Finney (Dean); many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step great-great-grandchildren.
