Peggy Stone Idol of Winston-Salem, NC, closed her eyes on September 1st, 2026, and woke up in the arms of Jesus.

Born on July 4, 1940, in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, Peggy was the daughter of Robert William Stone and Evelyn Gordon Stone Infinger. She spent her childhood on the family farm, with Pilot Mountain serving as both her playground and the backdrop for many treasured memories. She later moved to Winston-Salem, where she attended Hanes High School. A standout athlete and proud member of the Class of 1958, Peggy excelled in basketball, softball, and speedball. Her love of sports remained strong throughout her life, and she especially enjoyed cheering on and celebrating her children and grandchildren in their many activities and accomplishments.

Peggy worked for many years with AMP Incorporated. Through hard work and determination, she advanced within the company while earning her college degree, ultimately becoming a machine mechanic. Following her retirement from AMP, she faithfully served for several years as secretary of her beloved Oak Forest United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school, served within numerous church committees and cultivated many lasting friendships. Peggy considered her church family an extension of her own.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her loving brother, Kary Loman Tilley.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carolyn Shoaf (Scott) and Barbara Todd (Shawn); her grandchildren, Katelyn Frazier, Grant Shoaf (Monica), Emily Cole (Kendall), and Justin Todd; and her great-grandchildren, Maddux, Emmett, Owen, and soon-to-arrive Ellis. She is also lovingly remembered by her special nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Whether working with children, youth, or adults, delivering Meals on Wheels, or serving at the homeless shelter, Peggy considered all of God's people to be among life's greatest blessings. She had a gift to look beyond differences and welcome others with an open heart. Her legacy of love, laughter, compassion, and the ability to simply meet people wherever they were along life's journey will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Peggy's Life will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday September 5th at Oak Forest United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am-11:00 am prior to the service. Attendees are encouraged to wear light or joyful colors in honor of a life well lived.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the her private caregiving team, the staff of Harmony at Brookberry Farm, Trellis Supportive Care and the special neighbors and friends upon whom Peggy relied during the last several years of her life.
