Peggy Hedrick Owens

Peggy Hedrick Owens, a cherished member of the Lexington and Southmont, North Carolina communities, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on Saturday, March 25th, 1933, in Lexington, North Carolina, Peggy had a vibrant spirit for caring for her family and others and a gift for making those around her feel special. Her skilled hands as a hairdresser not only crafted beautiful styles but also created lasting friendships and warm memories for all who visited her. As a self-employed professional, Peggy's dedication to her craft and her clients was unparalleled. She also spent many years doing hair for the residents of Centerclaire Nursing Home and made many friends there.

Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Mitzi Summerlin, her beloved son-in-law, Jerry Summerlin, and her treasured grandchildren, Carah Summerlin and Kaley Summerlin. Their memories and stories of her love, wisdom, and enduring humor shall remain in their hearts forever.  Peggy spent many years traveling with Mitzi and her clogging team to countless competitions and performances. Peggy was also a very talented seamstress and made many costumes for the dancers. She was known as everyone’s clogging mama or clogging mawmaw.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay Owens, her dear sons, Steve Owens and Todd Owens, as well as her parents, Gould Wilburn Hedrick and Lucille McDaniel Hedrick, her sister, Geraldine Shoaf and brothers, Coy Hedrick and Hoyle Hedrick.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 2:50 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Peggy will follow at 3:00 pm in the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with Rev. Franklin Myers officiating. Peggy will be entombed on Monday, January 20th, 2025 at Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Lexington, NC following a brief service of committal.

The arrangements for Peggy Hedrick Owens have been handled by Davidson Funeral Home. Her legacy of kindness, strength, compassion, and quick wit continues to inspire all those who knew her. Peggy will be dearly missed but fondly remembered. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
