Some people are remembered for what they accomplished. Peggy Shipton will be remembered for who she gathered around her table - and for the hands that made it all possible. For eighty-eight years, those hands were never still. They rolled out biscuits that nobody could replicate and set a place at the table for anyone who walked through the door. Morning, noon, or night, there was always something on the stove and always room for one more. She fed neighbors, strangers, friends of friends, and four generations of her own family - and somehow, everyone left feeling like they were the reason she cooked that day. She held tight to the people she loved, and right up to the end, her hands were still reaching out to make sure everyone around her was taken care of.
Peggy Juanita Loman Shipton, 88, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Born on March 28, 1938, in Lexington, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Loman and Mary Ellen Louya Loman.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Julius “Boyd” Mozell Shipton; her brother, Roger Loman; and her sisters, Etheleen Mayes and Brenda Pullum.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Pamela Ellis (David), Penny Powell (Terry), and Mark Shipton (Wanda); her adored grandchildren: Sarah Ellis, Lori Trivette, Eric Shipton, Brandon Shipton, Tim Everhart, Stacey Yarbrough, Shane Powell, Jeremy Powell, and Amber Freeman; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Lockie Crowder and Alice Jenkins; her brothers, Danny Loman (Frances) and Gorman Loman (Carol); and two special goddaughters, Robin Lackey (Rusty) and Kim Swicegood (Dale).
A funeral service to honor Peggy’s life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery.
