Peggy Mellon Styers

Peggy Jean Mellon Styers, 92, of Jr. Order Home Rd, passed into eternal rest on August 6 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 10 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Reverend Randy Hall and will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/davidson.funeralhome/. A private inurnment for both Arvil and Peggy will be held after the celebration of life service.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:45 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Ben and Celia Stalvey.

Peggy was born August 21, 1931 in Davidson County to Robert and Geneva Mellon. She was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1949 from Linwood High School, where she was head cheerleader and served as the secretary of her senior class. After attending Women’s
College (now UNCG), she worked at the REA and later became a dedicated teacher assistant at Linwood and Southwood Elementary Schools. On April 17, 1954 she married Arvil Cecil Styers, the love of her life and celebrated 67 beautiful years together.

Peggy was a faithful member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church (New Hope Presbyterian) where she served as the first female elder. She was a member of the Fairmont Choir and taught Sunday School for years where she shared her faith, knowledge, and love of Christ with others. In
addition, she served as the leader of the Women’s Circle and received the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership award.
Peggy loved to travel and visited 48 of the 50 states in addition to 10 European countries with Arvil. She also enjoyed planting and working in her flower beds each spring and taking yearly trips to Holden Beach. Peggy was a talented artist, seamstress, and knitter. In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was predeceased by her sister, Julia Haire Stoner.

She is survived by her son, Phillip Styers (Janie) of New London and daughter, Celia Stalvey (Ben) of Lexington; three granddaughters, Caroline Stalvey of Lexington, Caby Styers of Washington, DC, and Abbey Styers of Winston Salem.

Special thanks are extended to Hospice of Davidson County for their excellent care of Peggy and her caregivers, Aura Melgar and Sergio Uscanga. The family would also like to thank Don and Sarah Styers for their weekly visits and gifts of love.
