Peggy Yvonne Hedrick Leonard, 87, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Peggy was born on August 2, 1938, to Fred Odell and Dorothy Leonard Hedrick. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a devoted member of Bethany United Church of Christ, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She retired from Lucent Technologies after 40 years of service, where she built many cherished friendships. She also worked in the tour business, where she created friendships, including a lifelong bond with her dear friend Nancy Truitt of Elon, North Carolina.
Peggy had a deep love for gospel music, which brought her joy and comfort throughout her life. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Doris Grubb; her brother, Bobby Joe Hedrick; her nephew, Joey Hedrick; and her great-nephew, Toby Hedrick.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, William “Pete” Leonard of the home; her nephew William “Corky” Hedrick (Judy) of Lexington; her niece Pamela Grubb Kinlaw; great-nieces Tracie and Christy; many other beloved great-nieces and nephews; and extended family members Joe and Charlene Melton of Mount Airy.
A graveside service to honor Peggy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Bethany United Church of Christ, 1066 Bethany Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, with Rev. Ted Wilkinson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care (101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103) or The Epilepsy Foundation (1920 W. 1st Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104).
