Perry Cotton Tyler III, 87, of Lexington, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021 at his home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 17th at Davidson Funeral Home with Rev. William Hutchins Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 17th at the funeral home. Mr. Tyler was born August 29, 1933, in Bertie County, to Claude Mason Tyler and Nelle Hart Tyler. He served in the U.S. Army, honorably serving his country during the Korean War and receiving a Purple Heart for his service. He was a life member of the following: VFW Post 3074, DAV, Davidson AMVets, and MOC. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8, proudly served as a member of the VFW Firing Squad, as well as the Past Commander of the VFW Post 3074 and Past State Commander of the MOC. Perry retired from United Furniture as a boiler operator and was a member of Full Gospel Freewill Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters. Surviving are his wife, Rita Ann Caudill Tyler of the home; one son, Perry Tyler IV (Shawn) of Lexington; two daughters, Jo Ann Blankenship (Terry) of Lexington, and Karen Tyler Fortner of Archdale; niece, Paula Turner; eight grandchildren, Marshall Johnson, Josh Pepper, Cory Blankenship, Cody Tyler, Laura Hackney, Trevor Tyler, Stephanie Hillery, and Hunter Tyler; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Blankenship, Levi Tyler, and Bessa Hackney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17 Chicago, IL 60601 or to Eminent Caring Hands of Kernersville 1501 Brookford Rd.
