Mr. Peter Stokes Lea, 90, a former resident of Waterway Drive, died Monday at Lexington Health Care after declining health.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Ray Howell, III officiating.
Mr. Lea was born January 28, 1919 in Forsyth County to Benjamin James Lea and Viola Chewning Lea. He was a graduate of NC State University and a veteran of the US Navy, having served in World War II. After the war, Mr. Lea taught at NC State and Lexington Senior High School. He would continue to teach over the years at Davidson County Community College. He served as Personnel Director at United Furniture Company, later Burlington Furniture until his retirement in 1981. His wife, Janice Swing Lea, preceded him in death on April 9, 2008.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Harris of Roanoke Rapids; his son, Ben Lea, and wife, Stephanie, of Los Angeles, CA; his grandchildren, Braxton Harris, and wife, Linda, and Zachary Thurman; and his great grandchildren, Summer and Will Harris. Mr. Lea is also survived by his nieces and nephews,
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and from 1:00 until 4:00 PM Thursday following the memorial service at the Quality Inn, Lexington.
