Phyllis Weaver Rogers of Bent Creek Dr., Lexington died Monday, November 29, 2010 in High Point Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.
A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Second United Church of Christ where she was a member since 1954 with Rev. Dr. Joe D. Coltrane officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Rogers was born in Davidson County on August 12, 1937 to Joe Clayton Weaver and Arline Call Weaver. She was co owner of Select Auto Sales. She was crowned Miss Erlanger during her high school years. Her love for her church was very important to her serving as Deacon and Elder on the Consistory. She was Co-Superintendent and taught the Pre-Jr. Department, Co-Superintendent of the Young Adult, taught Bible School, sang in the Choir for 40 years and was a member of the Hand Bells, past Co-Director of the Junior Choir and current chair of the music committee. She served as Vice President of Guild two times and was first Altar Guild Co-Chairman and was still serving on the Altar Guild, was Circle Leader for 30 years and a member of the Friendship Class as well as an Under Shepherd. She also served as the Chairman of the chicken pie committee, delivered Meals of Wheels and sang in the Annual Candlelight Service. In 2008 she received the Pearl P. Leonard Award for Christian Service. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Jeffrey Lee Rogers and a very special grandmother, Mary Etta Walser Call Moore.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Lee Rogers whom she married on September 24, 1954, daughters, Jan Cone and husband Clayton of Lexington and Angie Rogers of Trinity, 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Cone of Jacksonville, FL and Rachel Cone of Salisbury, sister Jo Ann Mize and husband Max of Lexington.
