Prentiss Alvin Saunders

March 28, 1934 — April 14, 2011

Prentiss Alvin Saunders, age 77, of Serenity Lane, Lexington passed away Thursday evening at Forsyth Medical Center.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday (April 17, 2011) at Greers Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lori Anne Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Greers Chapel Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 1:00 until 3:00 pm Saturday   Prentiss was born in Roanoke County, Virginia, March 28, 1934 to Prentiss Alvin Saunders, Sr. and Annie Phelps Saunders.  He was an active member of Greers Chapel United Methodist Church and received the Laity Service Award in 2009.  He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and gave generously to many charitable organizations during his lifetime. He was retired Vice President of Manufacturing, with LFI, Linwood Division. Prentiss was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Branagan and Virginia Lawson; one brother, James Saunders.   Surviving are; his wife, Janet Clement Saunders of the home; one daughter, Kimberley Corbett of Greensboro; one step-daughter, Kendall C. McLemore and husband Dusty of Lexington; one step- son, Chad B. Coppley of Lexington; four grandchildren, Connor and Caroline Corbett of Greensboro, Christian Podgaysky of Wilmington and Hunter McLemore of Lexington; two brothers, Richard Saunders and wife Phyllis, Eugene Saunders and wife Catherine all of Roanoke, Va.; and his beloved toy poodle, Salem.   In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to Greers Chapel United Methodist Church, 8195 Old Salisbury Road, Linwood, NC  27299   Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
