Rachel Caroline Fritts Stokes, 94, of Michael Road, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at her home. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Linwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles A. Lindquist Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall following the graveside service. Mrs. Stokes was born July 19, 1922, in Davidson County, to Jefferson Lloyd Fritts and May Snider Fritts. She was owner/operator of The Ideal Beauty Shop. She was a graduate of Brevard College and Salisbury Beauty College. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church, where she served as President of The United Methodist Women, a member of the Choir and Service Assistant Superintendent. She was also a member of The Lexington’s Womens Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Christopher Franklin Stokes; daughter, Donna Areta Bowen; and son-in-law, Joe Bowen. Surviving her are two grandchildren, Erin Bowen Wheeler (David) and Jennifer Bowen Greanias (George); five great-grandchildren; and brother, Gene Fritts (Hazel) of Lexington.
