Rachel Thompson

Rachel Lorene McAbee Thompson, 80, of Mocksville, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be at 2 PM Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Jimmy Garrett. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Thompson was born August 17, 1942 in Greer South Carolina, to James Grady McAbee and Thelma Louise Whiteside McAbee. She had worked as a waitress at Little Richard’s Barbecue in Winston-Salem and was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Michelle Thompson; her brothers, Robert McAbee, and Gene McAbee; and her sisters, Nellie Nifong and Esther Strickland. Surviving are her children, Rita Smith of Mocksville, Lisa T. Chaffin (Rick) of Lexington, Scott Thompson (Sandra) of Winston Salem, and Kelly T. Schwartz of Lexington; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
