Racie Yarbrough Melton

Racie Yarbrough Melton, 89, of Hamlet, formerly of Shoaf Street in Lexington, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Darrell Cartrette. Mrs. Melton was born in Davidson County on July 21, 1917, to Roswell "Ross" Samuel Yarbrough and Nettie May Yarbrough. She was a graduate of Lexington High School, of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman M. Melton Sr., in April 1983; a brother, R.S. Yarbrough; and five sisters, Doris Tate, Hazel Queen, Ruby Hanes, Blanche Ayers and Fern Simerson. Surviving are two sons, Norman M. Melton Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Snow Camp and Gerald Thomas Melton and his wife, Terri, of Hamlet; one daughter, Patricia Melton Garner of Gainesville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Mark, Donna, Gina and Shelly; and six great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
