Ralph Withers Shaw

Ralph Withers Shaw, 94, of Mitchell Ave., Lexington passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at his residence after a sudden illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites by Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home just prior to the service and other times at the home. Mr. Shaw was born November 25, 1921 in Marcella, NY to Archie M. Shaw and Bessie Gardner Shaw. He was a retired Brick Mason with R-K Stewart and a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. Ralph was a proud veteran of the US Air Force during WWII serving in Theater of Operations; Europe, 306 Bomb Group, B-17 Ball Turrett Gunner. He earned several military medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross; Air Medal W/3 Oak Leaf Cluster; American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; W/3 Bronze Stars; WWII Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal; D-Day Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post 3074. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Maurine Shoaf Shaw, a son, Donald Shaw passed on September 14, 2009 and his brother, Arthur Shaw and sisters, Marion Jarvis and Laura Bartholomew also preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Eva Jarvis Koonts Shaw of the home; two sons, Richard Shaw (JoAnne) of Maryland, David Shaw of Linwood; a daughter, Margie Shaw (Fred) of Florence, SC; three step-sons, Jerry Koonts, Timothy Koonts (Debra) both of Linwood, Clay Koonts (Susan) of Broadrun,VA and stepdaughter, Debra Daniel (Tommy) of Linwood; 8 grandchildren, Jenny Garwood (Mike) of Salisbury, Donnie Shaw of Lexington, Rick Shaw (Julie) of Easton, MD, Becky Shaw of St. Michaels, MD, Josh Shaw (Virginia) of Thomasville, Kris Shaw of Lexington, Jeffrey Shaw (Shannon), Gregory Shaw (Amy) both of Florence, SC; 6 step-grandchildren, Monika Greene, (Randy Webb) Richard Sink, Zachary Koonts, (Christy); Christie Smith (Frankie), Michael Koonts (Crystal), Jennifer Gillitzer (Jason); 11 great grandchildren, Jack Shaw, Jenny Shaw, James Shaw, Josie Shaw, Emily Garwood, Tony Garwood, Alex Shaw, Casey Shaw, Jasmine Shaw, Xavier Shaw, Skylar Shaw: 7 step-great grandchildren, Wyatt Koonts, Jackson Koonts, Deserez Luttrell, ClaimonTyler III, Austin Hall, Hailey Sturgell, Nicholas Aldridge; four great great-grandchildren and nephew Butch Bartholomew of Winston Salem.
