Ray Garland Everhart

Ray Garland Everhart, 75, of Central Heights, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of 18 months. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Benn Fleming. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Everhart was born May 7, 1931, in Davidson County to Archie Lee Everhart and Margaret Elizabeth Everhart. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Wasp during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Coble Dairy and was a motorcycle enthusiast, amateur musician, lover of guitars and history buff who especially enjoyed books about World War II and movies. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Tussey Everhart of the home; two sons, Tim Everhart and his wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte, and Jeff Everhart and his wife, Ginger, of Lexington; a granddaughter, Molly Everhart; a sister, Mary E. Allen and her husband, George, of Lexington; a brother-in-law, John Stirewalt of Lexington; and a nephew, Derek Stirewalt and his wife, Elizabeth, of Seattle, Wash. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293.
