J. Ray Hanes 86 of N. NC Hwy 150 passed away Saturday January 5, 2013 at Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday January 9, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Mark Craddock,and burial to follow at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery with Military Rites by Davidson County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Mr. Hanes was born February 16, 1926 in Davidson County to Julius Pinkston Hanes and Lillie Ethel Miller Hanes. He was retired from Lexington Furniture and a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. He honorably served his country in the Navy during World War II, where he earned the Victory Medal and Pacific Campaign Medal. His parents, brothers, John, David, Ervin and Roy Hanes and sisters, Rosa Troutman, Edith Byerly, Minnie Leonard, Nettie Byerly and Mary Essick all preceded him in death as well as a daughter in law, Shirley Hanes and his beloved canine companion Lucy.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Colleen Hill Hanes of the home; one son, Darrell Hanes of Lexington; daughters, Janice Hanes Bailey and husband William and Susan Hanes Kelly and fiancé Jeff Robinson all of Lexington; 4 Grandchildren, Bryan Hanes, Christopher Bailey and fiancé Molly Kepley, Kayla Lyons and fiance` Randy Guy and Angela Murphy and husband Tony; 4 Great Grandchildren, Brett Guy, Alex Guy, Erin Murphy and Ashley Murphy.

The family would like to thank Hinkle Hospice House, Lexington Dialysis, Dr. Anthony Bleyer and Dr. Collum, and his staff for all the love and concern shown to Ray and his family.
