Ray J. Thompson, age 90, of Woodhaven Drive, Lexington passed away Friday night at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 6:00 pm Monday (June 13, 2011) in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Garrett officiating. Burial will be private
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home following the service Monday night and at other times at the home.
Ray was born in Forsyth County, July 4, 1920 to Ray Allison Thompson and Ethel Langston Thompson. He was a graduate of Shady Grove High School in Davie County. He was a retired Electronic Technician Salesman with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company and later worked for the City of Lexington, Water Treatment Plant, a licensed NC Real Estate Broker and an appraiser with Davidson County Tax Department. He was a member of Fork Baptist Church; and was a volunteer with Lexington Memorial Hospital for five years. Ray served his country in the Army-Air Force during World War II, from October 1942 to December 1945, receiving numerous citations. On of his greatest memories was the “Flight of Honor” he took May 18, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Fannie Greene Thompson, December 22, 2000.
Surviving are; his wife Eunice Thompson; one daughter, Rita Salter and husband Kent of Locust Fork, AL; one son, Lindsay Ray Thompson and wife Jade of Lexington; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Summers of Mocksville and Bessie Darr of Lexington; step-daughter, Pacita Whatley of Charleston, SC; one step-son, Bobby Dennis of Charleston, SC.
