Raymond Henry Cates, Jr. passed away peacefully while resting in his home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 with Rev. Jamie Armstrong officiating. Family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Church Columbarium. Left behind his loving wife of 63 years Bonnie Cates, loving sons Jim and Ed Cates, and Daughter Jennie Casoli; daughter-in-laws Carol and Julie Cates and son- in-law Bob Casol; grandchildren, Daniel and Kristen Cates. Ray Cates was 85 years old was a loving Husband and Father and Grandfather who's most important priority was taking care of his family. He served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany from 1954-1957 and then member of the army reserve from 1957-1976 retiring as Lieut. Colonel. He was a long time employee of PPG where he held multiple patents and served as plant manager. He was a founding member of the Davidson County Hospice Care. He was long time member of Sapona Golf Course where he lived and loved to play the game of golf, He served on local board of directors of the following; First Union National Bank, Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce, NC Citizens for Business and Industry, Davidson County Hospice, He served on the administrative board of First United Methodist Church where he was a member a former member of the CEO committee of the United Way
