Raymond Frederick Fox

Raymond Frederick Fox, 63, formerly of St. Albans, W.Va., died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Abbotts Creek Care and Rehabilitation Center. Ray had donated his body for medical research to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina. There will be no formal service or visitation. Mr. Fox was born in New Martinsville, W.Va., on February 5, 1949, to William and LaRoss Fox. He lived as a small child in Pine Grove, W.Va., before his family moved to Charleston, W.Va., and then to St. Albans, W.Va. Ray’s grandfather was William Ross Batson who was a dentist in Pine Grove. Mr. Fox graduated from St. Albans High School attended Marshall University for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy and giving four years to our country during which time he spent a year in Okinawa, Japan. He had also worked at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va. Later when he relocated to West Virginia he worked at Kanawha Company Assessor Office, APCO, Union Carbide of S. Charleston, Proctor and Gamble of Cincinatti, Ohio, and later he joined National Starch and Chemical in North Carolina. No matter where he lived, Ray remained an active volunteer with the March of Dimes. Looking back we can see that Ray was developing symptoms of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in November 2010 but was not diagnosed until May 2011. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Fox. He leaves behind Jeanna Sue Yocum Fox; son, Sean Fox and significant other Bryan Hughart; brother, Phillip Fox and wife Judy; nephew, Mike Fox; niece, Susan Crum; and great-nieces and nephews, all of St. Albans, W.Va. “Suffering has no meaning unless we can believe that God understands our pain and will comfort us…the same hands made the beauty of this world has a more beautiful place prepared for us”.
