Raymond "Ray" Lee Watkins

Raymond Lee “Ray” Watkins, 66, of Allred Road, died Monday, June 4, 2012, at Hinkle Hospice House, following a one year period of declining health. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by the Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the funeral home and other times at the home. Mr. Watkins was born February 24, 1946, in Davidson County, to Hanzy P. Watkins and Geneva Canady Watkins. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was owner/operator of Hedrick’s Grove Country Store. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a member of VFW Post 3074. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his loving wife, Bonnie Kay Freedle Watkins of the home; sons, Chris Watkins and Chad Watkins and wife, Amy, both of Lexington; stepson, Tracy Weaver and wife, Tracie, of Lexington; grandchildren, Ally Watkins, Ashley Watkins and Brett Weaver; and sisters, Becky Langley and husband, Dan, of Winston-Salem, and Louise Leonard and husband, Stan, of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 6261 NC Highway 8, Lexington, NC 27292; or Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
