David Reid Sink Jr., 77 of Midway, loving and devoted son, husband and father, died Monday night, July 2, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Midway United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John C. Woods Jr. and Robin B. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born Aug. 11, 1929, to David Reid Sink Sr. and Mamie Yokeley Sink. He was a retired farmer. He was awarded the honor of Outstanding Young Farmer for the years 1963 and 1964 by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Lexington. He was a charter member of the Davidson County Farm Bureau and was president of the Board of Directors. He was a director on the State Board of Farm Bureau. He was a lifetime member of Midway United Methodist Church and served as president of the United Methodist Men. He was a caretaker for the church for 35 years. He was also loved by his Sunday school class and will especially be remembered for the wonderful chicken stew meals he prepared for their occasional gatherings. He was a charter member of Midway Volunteer Fire Department and retired with 30 years of service. He was elected and served 16 years on the Davidson County Board of County Commissioners. He served this office with a passion because he loved serving his community. He represented Davidson County on the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments and was chairman of the board and served on the Council of Aging. He served on the Executive Board of the Davidson County Republican Party and was inducted into the Republican Party Hall of Fame on March 10, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hall Sink; and sister Mary Lois Nifong.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Pansy Shoaf Sink; and five children, Johnny Sink, Donna Phelps, Dennis Sink and wife Maria, Teresa Robertson and husband David and Marty Sink and wife Eve, all of Lexington; two sisters, Dorothy Crumpler of Wilmington and Frances Reich of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Sink, Stephanie Barber and husband Brian, Jeremy Sink and wife Brenda, April Wilkes and husband Kyle, Amanda Covington and husband Jeff, Kyle Phelps and wife Amanda, Jodie Griffin and fiance Charles, Josh Robertson, Michael Robertson, Drew Sink and Hannah Sink; five great-grandchildren, Zach Sink, Brianna Sink, Dylan Wilkes, Sarah Covington and Logan Koontz; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 Thursday night, July 5, at Davidson Funeral Home - Hickory Tree Chapel.
