Rennie Hege Smith Jr.

Rennie Hege Smith Jr., 77, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013. A graveside celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by Revs. Robin Fitzgerald and Gene Sherrill. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. He was born to the late Rennie H. Smith Sr. and Mary Stevens Smith on August 30, 1936. Rennie was retired from Sparks Contracting. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Spin Smith and grandson Joshua Murrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Bodsford Smith of the home in Clemmons; 6 children, Chris Smith (Sarah), Daphine “Dene” Murrell (Paul), Gary Smith (Alison), Velvet Bowyer (Dennis), Tammy Smith and Jeff Smith; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Lisa Currin, Daniel Smith, Johanna Benedict, Aaron Murrell, Kerri Hux and Justin Leonard; he was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren; Micah, Elizabeth, David, Naomi and Lydia Smith, Haley and Alyssa Currin, Nash Benedict, Kayden and Savannah Hux, and Khali Leonard.
