Reverend Darrell Wade Cartrette, a cherished pastor, devoted husband, and enthusiastic fisherman, passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on July 23, 1957, in Loris, South Carolina, Darrell was the beloved son of Maston Vernon Cartrette and Pauline Cribb Cartrette, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in a close-knit family with two brothers, Paul and Gene Cartrette, and three sisters, Pat, Margie, and Bonnie.
Darrell's life was marked by a profound commitment to his faith and community. As the esteemed pastor of Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church, he dedicated himself to the mission of Christ, guiding and inspiring countless individuals with his spiritual wisdom and compassionate leadership. His unwavering devotion to his congregation left a lasting impact that will be remembered by all who knew him.
In his leisure time, Darrell found joy in participating in fishing tournaments with the Phoenix Bass Fishing League, where his skill and passion for the sport were well recognized. His love for fishing was a testament to his zest for life and his ability to find joy in the simplest of pleasures.
Darrell is preceded in death by both parents and his sister Bonnie.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Staretta Williamson Cartrette; his son, Brent Cartrette, and his wife, Jenny; his daughter, Erica Cartrette, and her partner, Chris Forrest; his brothers, Paul Cartrette and Gene Cartrette; his sisters, Pat Britt and Margie Cribb; and his cherished granddaughter, Jayden Cartrette.
A service honoring Darrell’s life and legacy will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Davidson Funeral Home - Lexington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church to continue the work that was so dear to Darrell’s heart.
Darrell's passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who were touched by his life and faith.
