Rev. Daryl L. Shaffer

Rev. Daryl L. Shaffer, 84, of Linwood went to be with his Lord, Monday(Feb. 28, 2011). Rev. Shaffer was born December 22, 1926 in Pleasant Valley, Maryland, to Harry C. Shaffer and Bernice O. Shaffer.  He was a U S Army veteran of World War II. Rev. Shaffer was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Amy Nazelrod Shaffer.   A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday (March 19, 2011)at the Church of God of Prophecy in High Point with the Rev. Benjamin Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will be Friday (March 25, 2011) at 11:00 am in Salisbury National Cemetery for Rev. Shaffer and his wife Amy.   Rev. Shaffer was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God of Prophecy in which he served as a minister and pastor for forty-one years.  He and his wife ministered together in Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware and North Carolina.  They retired in 1993 and moved to Linwood.  His passion was preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing the love of God with others.  He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and fishing. He was preceded in death by a sister Eva Hindershot.   Surviving are daughters, Charlene Bliss and husband Perry of Vermont, Betty Barrett of Florida, and Sandra Hamilton and husband Dexter, of Lexington; grandchildren, Michele Laskus and husband Joe, Sara Paulin, Jared Shupe, Deanna Travis and husband Mark, Dexter Hamilton, and Christopher Hamilton and wife Olivette; great-grandchildren, Brady and Robert Travis, Caden and Dawson Paulin, Steven and Amy Hamilton, and Mark Laskus; sister, Catherine Merrill; brothers, Wade C. Shaffer and Oliver H. Shaffer; his extended family at his Ward Avenue Church and the other churches of his pastorate.   The family wishes to thank Dr. Benjamin Wilson for the medical care and his support of faith during our twelve days in the critical care unit of Lexington Memorial Hospital.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of God of Prophecy, 211 North Ward Avenue, High Point, NC  27262.
