Rev. Donas Pardee Hicks, 78, of Alston Brook, died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Lexington Memorial Hospital following a serious illness of three days.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Noah Frye and Michael McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Rev. Hicks was born November 2, 1931, in Watauga County, to Clinard Hicks and Beulah Blanche Pressnell Hicks. He was a retired minister having pastored at several churches including Cross of Calvary Baptist Church in Trinity, True Light Baptist Church in Holly Grove, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wadesboro, Roaring Creek Baptist Church in Newland, and King Community Church in King. He had also served as a missionary in Puerto Rico. Following retirement he chose to become a member of Currytown Baptist Church in Lexington. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mamie Shrewsbury, Louanna Pressnell, Dolly Ward and Faye Clark; and brother in law, Gary Hunt.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Farthing Hicks of the home; daughter, Carolyn Leoanrd and husband, David, of Lexington; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Brownie Hicks and wife, Sue, of Mocksville, Hamon Hicks and wife, Penny, Junior Hicks and wife, Gracie, and Victor Hicks and wife, Brenda, all of Lexington; and sisters, Jean Hunt and Artha Mathis, both of Lexington; and brother-in-law, Connie Shrewsbury.
