Rev. Gary Foster

The Reverend Gary Bruce Foster, 66, of S. NC Highway 150, died Friday, May 29 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, June 1 at Reeds United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Duncan Martin and Randy Lucas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home. Rev. Foster was born February 17, 1949 in Davidson County to Bruce L. and Bertie Lanier Foster. He began his studies at the UNC-Chapel Hill and was a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. He also received his Master’s Degree from UNC-G. He also attended Duke Divinity School and later earned his Master’s of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary. Gary operated several barbecue restaurants and opened Family Barbecue Inn before entering the ministry in 1993. He served Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and returned to his home church of Reeds United Methodist in 1996. He served the Reeds Community until his retirement in 2013. He was also instrumental in starting the West Davidson Food Pantry. He loved the beach and beach music, and loved to find new restaurants. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Penny Hutchins Foster of the home; his son, Alan Foster of Lexington; his mother of Lexington; his brother, Kenny Foster and wife, Connie, of Clemmons; and his grandchildren, Haley and Gabby Foster. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of your choice, Reeds UMC, 4371 W Old Hwy 64, Lexington NC 27295 or to West Davidson Food Pantry, 4600 W Old Hwy 64, Lexington NC 27295.
