Rev. George Arthur Fidler Sr., age 84, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at Arbor Acres Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Pilgrim Reformed Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm prior to the service.
A private interment will take place at Springfield Friends Meeting Place Cemetery prior to the service.
George was born January 5th, 1931 to British Immigrant parents, Norman B. and Edith R. Fidler in High Point, NC. He was a devoted and loved minister for 56 years in 8 churches, most recently at Pilgrim Reformed Church in Lexington, NC. He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice, intelligence, charm, and integrity. Rev. Fidler was educated at Catawaba College and Duke Divinity, was the perfect role model to be called to serve God at age 5, and served as Pastor of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ in Lexington, Zion United Church of Christ in Thomasville, Trinity United Church of Christ in Concord, St. Johns in Cullman, AL, Second United Church of Christ in Lexington, Seagrove United Church of Christ in Seagrove, Pilgrim Reformed Church in Lexington, and Grace Lower Stone in Rockwell. Rev. Fidler will be forever loved and missed by his family, friends, and thousands of church members whose lives he touched. Rev. Fidler was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Norman B. Fidler, Jr.; and a sister, Betty F. Messerschmidt.
Rev. Fidler is survived by his beloved Burlington High School sweetheart, Jean Marion Fidler of Arbor Acres in Winston Salem, NC; two loving sons, George A. Fidler Jr. (Linda) of Savannah, GA, and David B. Fidler of Salt Lake City, UT; a loving daughter, Marian S. Gavson (Kevin) of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Billy Shaffer, Andrew Fidler, Corey Fidler, and Gabby Gavson; and 2 great grandchildren, Mary Ellis Fidler, and Eli Jude Fidler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church of the donor’s choice.
