Rev. Horace Buchanan

The Rev. Horace Wofford Buchanan, 91, of Piedmont Crossing, formerly of Lexington, died Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2007, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church by Dr. Jim Martin and the Rev. Care Goodstal. Inurnment will be at a later date. The Rev. Buchanan was born in Spartanburg County, S.C., on May 4, 1916, to Floyd Roscoe Buchanan and Lillie Duggins Buchanan. He was plant superintendent of Erlanger Mills in Lexington for 20 years, after which he became a minister with the Baptist church, having served in Monroe; Greenville, S.C.; Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Jackson, Ala.; and Forest Park, Ga. After retirement from the ministry he was interim minister at Coggins Memorial Baptist in Lexington and Yadkin Baptist Church in Rowan County and was pastor emeritus of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife, Georgia Brooks Buchanan of Piedmont Crossing; two sons, Jim Buchanan and his wife, Betsy, of Lexington, and Charles Buchanan and his wife, Judy, of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jimmy Buchanan, Holly Fishback, Chuck Buchanan and Tiffany Harter; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Martha Neighbors, Sarah Barnwell and Ola Lytle, all of Spartanburg, S.C., and Mary Candler of Candler.
