Rev. Jack Waters, Sr.

The Rev. Jack Calvin Waters Sr., 81, of Mill Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at his home after a six-month illness. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Vernon Richmire, Charles Kelly and Judy Jarrell. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories,Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Waters was born Nov. 4, 1929 in DuPont, Ga., to Willie Burl Waters and Dorothy Louise Driggers Waters. He was a graduate of Southeastern University, a retired pastor and a member of First Assembly of God. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and he received the Purple Heart. Surviving are his wife, Nelwyn Miness Waters of the home; a son, Jack Calvin Waters Jr. of Lexington; two daughters, Vanessa Lynn Waters Kemp and Angela Darlene Fire, both of Lexington; three sisters, Shirley Robertson, Margie Stanley and Linda Norman, all of Florida; three brothers, Ed Waters, Roger Waters and Bud Waters, all of Florida; three grandchildren, Travis Freeman, Christopher Morehead and Joshua Nicholson; and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Davidson County and its staff.
