Rev. Lowell Craig Askins

The Rev. Lowell Craig Askins, 61, of Manor Ridge Way, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his home. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. David Shaffer and Dr. Pete Hamilton. A private burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery. The Rev. Askins was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Franklin County, Ohio, to L. Craig Askins and Marguerite Mae Plunkett Askins. He was a graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore, Ill., Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salem, Ill., Coon Creek Baptist Church in Collins, Mo., and became pastor of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church in June 1990. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Claudia Johnston Askins of the home; a son, Craig Steve Askins of Lexington; two daughters, Teresa Marie Borjon and her husband, Tomas, of Millsap, Texas, and Rachel Louise Rutherford and her husband, David, of Keller, Texas; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Megan, Ryan and Aaron Westmoreland, Hope and Matthew Askins and Ashley Rutherford; a brother, Lynn Eugene Askins of Delaware, Ohio; and two sisters, Nola Lea Jende of Powell, Ohio, and Karen Lynita Finley of Belton, S.C. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Coggins Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 1306 S. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292.
