Richard 'Buddy' Eugene Leonard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard ‘Buddy’ Eugene Leonard, who peacefully departed from this world on August 15, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the age of 77. Born on November 5, 1947, in North Carolina, Richard lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a remarkable ability to connect with others.

Richard's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his family and his strong work ethic. He spent over 30 years at Carolina Container Company, where he worked in cardboard manufacturing. Beyond his professional life, Richard found joy in a variety of pursuits. He loved all kinds of animals, a passion that led him to generously donate to the local humane society. Richard also dedicated some of his time to L&L Landscaping and Grading, the family business. He treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren and found solace and happiness at his beach house in Oak Island. Richard was a hardworking, loving dad and grandfather, who always put his family first.

Richard's ability to forge friendships was truly exceptional. He had a unique gift for instantly turning strangers into friends, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was loved by everyone.

Richard is survived by his devoted spouse of 60 years, Peggy Marie Thompson Leonard, his sons Ron Leonard (Sandy) and son Terry Leonard (Cindy), six cherished grandchildren: Dalton Leonard (Hannah), Kinlee Leonard, Brandon Leonard (Graham), Austyn Leonard (Cassidy), Morgan McGee (Andrew), and Zach McGee, and an adored great-grandchild Gracie Shore. He also is survived by his extended family The Hobbs Family, Spoon Family, Troutman Family, King Family of Oak Island, Wood Family, and numerous friends and neighbors.

A visitation will be held at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 at 1pm, with a memorial service to honor Richard’s life starting at 2pm.

Richard's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and the enduring power of friendship.
