Richard Edward Cheatham, 83, of New Jersey Church Road, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington.
A funeral service will be 12:00 pm Monday, March 17, 2014, at Center Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Revs. Brian Alexander and Lamar Moore. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Cheatham was born December 11, 1930, in Wise County, Va., to Silas Hale Cheatham and Agnes Lyons Cheatham. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was an electrician with RJ Reynolds prior to retirement. He was a Deacon at his church and a member of Lexington Memorial Lodge 473.
Surviving are his loving wife, Lucille Blanton Cheatham, of the home; sons, Richard Cheatham Jr. and wife Susan of King, John Blanton and wife Susan of Franklinville, Charles Michael Cheatham and wife LeAnn of Indiana, and David Cheatham of High Point; daughters, Virginia Andrews and husband Jeff of Asheville; sister, Mattie Faye Slaughter of Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
