Richard Eugene Furr

Richard Eugene Furr passed away peacefully with his son by his side after a brief illness on January 3, 2026.

Richard is the son of Glenn Morris Furr and Ruby Lee Freeman born March 15, 1941, in Cabarrus County.

He was employed by Billings Freight 37 years and received the prestigious award for NC Truck Driver of the year in 1999. He drove 4.5 million miles (safe driving) with no accident. After retirement he took a security guard position at Lexington Medical Center and worked for another 15 years.

He enjoyed fishing and yard work. He loved beach music, traveling to the beach, mountains and Cherokee to gamble. He played his poker machine until he couldn’t play any longer.

Preceded in death by father Glenn Morris Furr, mother Ruby Lee Freeman Furr Williams, brother David Lee Furr and the love of his life, his wife of 47 yrs Lorraine House Furr.

He leaves behind a son, Michael Glenn Furr (Melissa Garner Furr), a daughter Tracy Furr Dingwall (Rick Dingwall), a very special companion Sandra Allen, sisters Janet Perry and Glenda Meadows (Herb), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Davidson Health and Rehab and Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate care.

At Richard’s request a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
